WordPress plugin: Social Media Bookmark Plugin +
Posted by Benjamin Reid in Plugins
I’ve knocked together a little WordPress plugin for my Social Media Bookmark + icon set. At the moment it contains a couple of useful functions to add the icons into your WordPress website/blog (read on for full explanation of these) and of course contains all the icons in it too! This will be updated every time the icon set is updated.
Just like the icon set, I want you to suggest things you’d like to see in the plugin. It may be a feature that already exists in similar plugins but you’d just like my icons in place or a completely new feature that you’re dying to get on your website, so please shoot some suggestions in the comments.
Now you can add icons super-easily! Use this little snippet below in your content, excerpt or comments fields for the icon to appear.
[twitter 32]
This will generate a Twitter icon at 32×32 pixels. Just replace ‘twitter’ with any icon name in the set (no spaces or hyphens) and ‘32′ with any of the available sizes (32, 16, button).
This is just as easy as adding icons into your content! Place this snippet into any of your theme files and replace ‘twitter’ with any icon name in the set (no spaces or hyphens) and ‘32′ with any of the available sizes (32, 16, button).
<?php echo icon('twitter', '32'); ?>
My name is Benjamin Reid, I live in the UK and keep the magic locked into this site.

So… wait? It doesn’t make the icons link anywhere? =/

At the moment it doesn’t. But as I said, suggest features and they will be added. Do you want something (for example) that would add the icons to the bottom of the post then automatically set up links for Digg, Twitter etc…?
The initial release was aimed at people wanting to add icons to their website and allow them to put personalised profile links.

If you are ablr to do this please reply and I will definitely donate for a job well done plus I can put a link for your website thanks buddy

You have a great complete list icon. I use the button, with “share” beside it.
Thanks

Would be nice if this would work in a widget — I tried adding [twitter 32] in a text widget in my footer, but nothing was displayed

Here’s a work around:
Put [twitter 32] in a blank post. Then copy the address of the icon to your clipboard and paste into HTML on a text widget. That will work, it’s how I did it.

Thanx so much this is really great concept for a plug-in — 5 stars. Looking forward to any further developments on this idea.

Nice plugin
To top it off, would you please add a SoundCloud icon?
#thnx

… Ah, the soundcloud is missing from the plugin, but there in the normal icon download pack
thnx!

Great plugin. I actually like that it’s just the icons with no links so that I can link easily personalize them on my site.
I have two suggestions:
1. The Twitter icon is out-of-date. Twitter uses a bird logo now, and the old “T” logo can be confused with Tumblr.
2. RSS buttons in a variety of colors. I know orange is the standard, but I’m trying to come up with a way to differentiate between 2 links on the same page to different RSS feeds.

Hi Michael,
Thanks for your comments. I think it’s about time this got a bit of an update anyway!
So I’ll take your thoughts on board.
